Detox is essential to remove drugs or alcohol from an individual’s body. While this is an important first step, it is not enough on its own to fully break the cycle of addiction. After detox, individuals with a substance use disorder need addiction treatment to cut their ties to drugs or alcohol, and an intensive outpatient program in Florida is one of the most effective paths forward.
Recovering from addiction is possible through the variety of outpatient programs that we offer here at Coastal Detox. Depending on the severity of your addiction, an Intensive Outpatient Program allows you to receive the structured support you need while rejoining daily life between sessions.
The Basics
What is an Intensive Outpatient Program?
An intensive outpatient program is a type of treatment program that addresses addiction without temporarily requiring patients to live in a treatment facility. In today’s busy world, it can be difficult to find time for inpatient care, which requires staying onsite 24 hours a day. The average adult has many responsibilities that make full inpatient treatment impossible.
Many people need a treatment program that still allows them to attend school, work, or take care of their families and homes. That’s where IOPs come in. Outpatient programs like IOPs provide the same clinical care as inpatient programs, with the added flexibility you need to keep your life moving.
Levels of Care
Who Benefits From IOP Programs?
An IOP program can be one step in a broader continuum of care for an individual with a substance use disorder (SUD), or it can stand on its own. Some patients step down from a more intense outpatient program, like a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), into an IOP. Others choose to attend an IOP directly. After completing an IOP, patients may continue into a traditional outpatient program or conclude their addiction treatment with the skills they’ve built.
What to Expect
What to Expect in an IOP at Coastal Detox
Our intensive outpatient program in Florida runs 4 to 6 weeks in length. Patients are expected to attend treatment at least three days a week, for 3 hours a day. While this is the average, some patients may need additional treatment hours depending on their unique needs.
Our IOP is designed to support patients socially, behaviorally, and psychologically, providing interventions that help you make healthy decisions and turn away from drug or alcohol abuse long after treatment is complete.

PHPs vs IOPs: The Difference Between These Programs
Overall, a PHP is a higher level of care than an IOP. When it comes to outpatient care, IOPs sit between PHPs and traditional outpatient programs, and many patients move through the levels as they grow more confident in their recovery.
