The 5 Main Residential Treatment Benefits

There are millions of people throughout the United States who struggle with drug addiction. Only about 11 percent actually receive treatment, though.

If you’re considering seeking treatment for your addiction, you’re way ahead of millions of others. The key to getting the most out of treatment, though, is making sure you’re choosing the right type.

There are several different forms of addiction treatment, including residential treatment.

Read on to learn more about the residential treatment benefits you’ll experience if you take this approach to your recovery.

What Is Residential Treatment?

Residential treatment is a type of addiction treatment that requires you to reside in a facility for a specific length of time (usually somewhere between 30 and 90 days).

You will basically move into the facility full-time and will be required to stay there for the duration of your treatment. You may be able to have friends or family members come and visit you, but you won’t be able to leave the facility except with special permission.

While in the facility, you’ll have access to everything you need to focus on your recovery. This includes medical care and support from mental health professionals. You’ll also have all your basic needs (food, medicine, a place to sleep, etc.) met.

Top 5 Residential Treatment Benefits

Are you unsure of whether residential treatment is right for you?

Undergoing residential treatment is a big commitment. It comes with a lot of benefits, though, including the following:

1. Structure

In residential treatment, every part of your day is planned and scheduled for you. You’ll follow a strict routine and will get to enjoy a sense of order and organization.

This amount of structure and the clear boundaries laid out by your treatment team will help you establish new habits and avoid the old patterns you developed in your addiction.

2. Round-the-Clock Support

In addition to having lots of structure, you’ll also have access to lots of support while staying in a residential treatment facility.

You’ll have medical doctors and nurses available to help you minimize the symptoms of withdrawal and treat any co-existing conditions you may have.

You’ll also have mental health professionals who can provide additional support and help you get to the root of your addiction and create a plan of action for the future.

3. More Time to Focus on Recovery

When you’re in a residential treatment facility, you have freedom from the distractions of everyday life.

You don’t have to worry about going to work or school or dealing with other issues. Instead, you get to focus all your energy on your recovery.

This might seem selfish at first. Remember, though, that by taking care of yourself now, you’ll be in a better position to take care of your family and loved ones later.

4. Sense of Community

You won’t be alone when you’re staying in a residential treatment facility. You’ll be surrounded by others who are going through the same thing as you.

It feels great to spend time with people who understand what you’re experiencing and can help you through the ups and downs of treatment.

5. High Success Rate

Residential treatment programs also have high success rates.

Research shows that many people who participate in these programs are able to remain sober afterward. This is especially true for people who completed elongated stays (at least three months).

Choosing a Residential Treatment Program

Residential treatment programs have a lot to offer those who are suffering from drug addiction. Not all of them are created equal, though.

Listed below are five questions you ought to ask to ensure you’re choosing the right program:

1. What Are My Goals?

Start by asking yourself what you want to accomplish by going to rehab. Obviously, you want to get sober. What else, though?

Do you want to work with a particular type of therapist? Do you want help getting treatment for a co-existing disorder?

The more specific you get about the goals, the easier it will be to determine whether a program is right for you.

2. What Are Their Specialties?

Once you’ve identified your goals, you can look for a program that specializes in treatments that will help you accomplish those goals.

For example, you may need to find a program that specializes in treating individuals with alcohol addiction. Or, you may need to find a program that places a heavy emphasis on treating individuals with mental health disorders.

3. What Amenities Do They Offer?

If you’re going to be staying in a treatment facility for an extended period of time, it helps to know what kind of amenities they offer.

Check each facility’s website to see what their amenities are.

How do their rooms look? Do they have an option for you to have a private room? What kind of meals do they serve?

4. Are They Accredited?

It’s best to only participate in accredited programs.

Check their website to see if they have a seal from a professional organization such as the Joint Commission. This shows that they’re committed to certain standards and have gone the extra mile to ensure their facility offers residents the very best.

5. What Does It Cost?

Of course, you’ll have to think about the cost, too.

Do some research to learn about the prices of various programs, and check to see what your insurance provider will cover. Most facilities have a list of insurance companies that they work with on their website, so it’s easy to find out if you’re covered.

Great place . Helped me so much I am a 64 year old woman and this place got me sober with dignity and kindness. I highly recommend it plus the food is incredible. Rooms are really well laid out. 2 guys to a room . Each bed has its own t.v with head sets so you dont bother your roomate. Take an extra pillow and comfort blanket from home. At least 3 pairs of pj’ s sock and shoes and comfortable clothing fit. You do your own laundry there. I will send you the link to look at. After thinking all morning this is hands down the place for you. Lots of young people and fantastic therapists. For my wonderful son who suffers. From addiction the way I do.
