AmeriHealth Insurance

What is AmeriHealth and what do they provide?

AmeriHealth, originally known as Delaware Valley HMO, was founded in 1995 and in the past two decades has provided quality, affordable health insurance to almost 270,000 individuals and 8,000 businesses in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The company is a subsidiary of a larger provider in southeastern Pennsylvania. Their staff of nearly 200 people is spread out across numerous counties while the headquarters are based in Cranbury, New Jersey. One of AmeriHealth’s strongest assets is that they connect clients to thousands of health professionals that work for hundreds of hospitals and rehabilitation centers in the immediate area.

AmeriHealth offers POS, PPO, HMO, Medicare plans, Medicaid, and workers’ compensation; which are some of the highest-rated plans on the market in all of New Jersey. Point of Service (POS) plans require referrals from a primary care physician in order for you to see a specialist. They also command a slightly higher fee for in-network health professionals but cover doctors that are outside your provider’s network. Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) programs are much more costly, but you are allowed to enlist out-of-network doctors and specialists without a referral. Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) options are the cheapest due to low deductibles and premiums, but demand that you only consult doctors within the provider’s framework.

If you are covered under AmeriHealth insurance, you might receive some form of benefits for addiction and mental health treatment. The company maintains that they will only cover services that are medically necessary and have a set standard for what qualifies under that label.

Does AmeriHealth cover drug and alcohol rehabilitation?

AmeriHealth tends to provide coverage for most forms of substance abuse, especially ones that are experiencing high rates of usage due to epidemics. You can expect to be taken care of for the following:

The company uses a process called preauthorization to determine whether or not they will agree to subsidize benefits depending on if the treatment is medically necessary. It can happen before or after you start treatment, so note that should you began rehabilitation and the company pulls out, you will have to foot the bill. If there is a disagreement between you and your healthcare provider, you are allowed to repeal the decision and have them reconsider reimbursement,

While these are general overviews of AmeriHealth coverage, remember your individual plan could limit or restrict a wide array of services including:

Are mental health and detox included in your insurance coverage?

The majority of plans offered by AmeriHealth address addiction treatment. One of these treatment options is detox, where patients essentially live at a center, like our very own facility. Cleansing the body of harmful toxins such as drugs and alcohol, especially after long periods of use, can be an extremely difficult process. Individuals often experience painful periods of withdrawal as their bodies begin to craving. This requires the type of constant monitoring that can only be achieved with 24/7 care. Detox centers also offer medication that can ease the process of rehabilitation.

Finding the right treatment cannot be done without a healthcare professional assessing both the situation and patient. This is a process that AmeriHealth is highly supportive. Taking the time to construct a plan catered to an individual is much less costly than trying a variety of different programs that yield little to no results.

One of the main factors that AmeriHealth considers when conducting this assessment is to look at a patient’s mental health history. If you are wondering if your insurance provider covers mental health treatment, the answer is yes. They not only want to know about your record of mental illness but aim for you to seek help for it as a stepping stone to further treatment. This is especially necessary considering the fact that mental illness often leads to substance abuse.

What other types of treatment are covered by AmeriHealth?

If you are wondering about various treatment choices, detox is not your only option. AmeriHealth does provide coverage for a variety of other recovery plans, such as the ones here at Coastal Detox.

One such alternative is inpatient or residential treatment. Here you stay at a treatment facility, engage in a wide array of recreational activities, participate in individual and group therapies, as well as enroll in twelve-step programs. You can also obtain medication to ease your path to sobriety. Partial hospitalization entails treatment for up to four or six hours daily and sometimes five days weekly. This appeals to those who prefer to return home at night after therapy and consultations with healthcare professionals. Partial hospitalization often acts as the first stage of treatment since patients do not have to submit fully to the intensity of an around the clock program. Therefore, they can ease into the treatment and decide where to go from that point.

An even less all-inclusive option is the intensive outpatient program (IOP) where meetings only last a couple of hours per day and two or three days a week. The most noncommittal form of treatment are the simple outpatient treatment programs where therapy is kept to a minimum both in the type, usually only one form rather than a combination of methodologies, and length.

Real Client Testimonials

  • Before coming to coastal I was hopeless, helpless, and my family wanted nothing to do with me. It wasn’t the first detox I’d ever been to, but it was the only one who showed me so much love and compassion. They gave me hope. It’s hard to put into words the amount of gratitude I have for this facility. The employees were my family when I had none. The staff went out of their way to make sure not only were my physical needs taken care of, but my emotional needs as well. From the first phone call prior to admission, to helping me set up continuing care, they never missed a beat. Even going as far as to help me with my legal issues via Zoom court. This isn’t just a detox, they are the family I never had. All of the techs, especially Karen, are phenomenal. They will take the time to listen to you, laugh, and cry(if needed) with you. If you are reading this and you or your loved one is suffering like I was, go to Coastal Detox. The level of care is more than I could ever put into a review. It wasn’t the first detox I’d been to, but it has been my last; I owe them everything I have today, including my life.

  • Had a really good experience at Coastal. The staff really went above and beyond in helping me get in and gave me the respect l, space and care I needed after I first got there. As I started to fell better they encouraged me to take part in groups which helped get me out of my head and bring positivity and health to my thinking. They had a great massage therapist, who came daily and it was evident the nursing staff genuinely cared. Got to know some of the staff as well and I’m grateful for the cooks Joe and Chris. Those guys literally made us sirloins and pork chops for dinner. Also I gotta thank Chris and Chris for helping me get in and setting me up with a transition plan. Real grateful for that help, I’m not sure if it’s management intention to hire guys named Chris but they got a good thing going there. Overall, I’m clean and sober today and walking it out. Coastal gave me a base that set me up for the success that I’m walking in today

  • My family is very thankful for Coastal Detox. They have went above and beyond for my son a few times. Unfortunately he has needed their help more than once and they have ever turned their back on him, even when he was at his worst. Jeannie and Chris have been amazing and kept me informed through the entire process. They truly care about the addict and want to help them especially when it would be easy to give up on them. I had many detox facilities be rude and uncaring to me when I was searching for help for my son, but Coastal never did that to us. I don't know the names of all the team members that have helped my son but I know their are many and y'all are angels!! One day we will be able to pay it forward and help someone as you have helped us. Thank you for all you do!!

  • Can not say enough nice things about Coastal Detox & staff. Family member was there, told me five stars for the facility & all whom she interacted with. Said the facilities, ambience..., cleanliness, grounds, food, (think their chef is five stars), were all top shelf. All I interacted with personally & on the phone were patient, professional, responsive & caring. Kudos to so many: Jeannie Jones, Clinical Director whom I spent the most face to face time with: great oversight, patience & follow thru. Raquel Barker, Therapist was so understanding & on spot with her assessments/care. Kris Garrigus Admissions Director, another Coastal professional whom I cannot say enough nice things about, always so patient & responsive to my probably too frequent inquires. Not to be forgotten is Judy Tucker, Director of Operations she too so patiently "put up with me"
    I highly recommend Coastal Detox
